Source for Members of Congress: https://www.House.gov/representatives Notes: Number (1 to 435), State (by abbreviation), & District [[Format: “(State abbreviation—Party affiliation—District number),” for example: Scott Franklin (R-FL-15)]] – “AL” stands for “At Large,” when a state has so small a population that it has only one Member of Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives. (Streamline edition addresses only one issue; Deluxe scorecard allows for multiple issues to be addressed.) – NOTE: Below, notes include both the lawmaker's support (or lack) as well as our responses.

17. FL

Rubio, Marco (R-FL)

FACTS: Sen. Rubio has put forth a few “friendly” bills, but has been silent on student loan bankruptcy, and so we realise the justice delayed is justice denied, and we should call him out here.

Gordon Wayne Watts: In late 2016, when I was working campaign “phone banks,” a high-ranking GOP leader arranged a personal meeting between me and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), at which time I personally handed him TWO copies of a 2-sided, LAMINATED, and “full-colour” copy of the following guest column which I wrote just weeks earlier. Gordon Wayne Watts: Sen. Rubio didn't “get the message,” so, in 2018, I called him out with embarrassing comments in a follow-up column. Gordon Wayne Watts: On “Thu, Apr 15, 2021 at 4:48 PM,” I sent an email to Sen. Rubio requesting legislation regarding student debt (and 2 other unrelated, but important, issues: a breakdown in intelligence sharing among agencies, and vulnerabilities in the power / telcom grid, you know, that provides critical 911 and such). LINK: https://GordonWatts.com/Email-to-Lawmakers-about-StudentDebt-etc_PDF.pdf ARCHIVE: https://Web.Archive.org/web/20210821043541/https://contractwithamerica2.com/Email-to-Lawmakers-about-StudentDebt-etc_PDF.pdf NOTE: Said email cc copied both State AND Federal lawmakers, as well as local news media.

Gordon Wayne Watts: On my honour, I have phoned Sen. Rubio's office (202.224.3041 and local office: 813.947.6288) to follow up on my prior legislative requests sent by email or his website's “contact” form, and they probably know me by 1st-name basis. I occasionally comment on his social media too.

18. FL

Scott, Rick (R-FL)

FACTS: Sen. Rick Scott has put forth a few “friendly” ideas (see news coverage of him all over https://ContractWithAmerica2.com), but has not backed up his words with actions; so, we realise the justice delayed is justice denied, and we should call him out here.

Gordon Wayne Watts: On “Thu, Apr 15, 2021 at 4:48 PM,” I sent an email to Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) requesting legislation regarding student debt (and 2 other unrelated, but important, issues: a breakdown in intelligence sharing among agencies, and vulnerabilities in the power / telcom grid, you know, that provides critical 911 and such). Gordon Wayne Watts: I submitted written testimony to Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and his Judiciary committee regarding S.2598 – the student loan bankruptcy bill. LINK: https://GordonWatts.com/GordonWayneWatts_AMENDED_Testimony_SenateJudiciary_Tue03Aug2021_Proposed.pdf ARCHIVE: https://Web.Archive.org/web/20210819165721/https://contractwithamerica2.com/Testimony/GordonWayneWatts_AMENDED_Testimony_SenateJudiciary_Tue03Aug2021_Proposed.pdf

Gordon Wayne Watts: Said testimony was received and acknowledged by the communications director of the ranking member of Sen. Durbin's committee. Gordon Wayne Watts: On my honour, I did, indeed, follow up with polite and brief phone calls to inquire about the status of my written testimony, while also expressing my support for S.2598, and assuring them that my legal scholar testimony would be helpful to them in getting much-needed support from “Conservative” lawmakers. (Additionally, tho not shown in the email linked above, I did include ALL 22 committee members by Bcc in my original email.)

Gordon Wayne Watts: I submitted a press inquiry to Rep. Jerry Nadler Durbin (D-NY-10) and his HOUSE Judiciary Committee regarding H.R.4907 – the “private” student loan bankruptcy bill—including a copy of the written testimony I submitted to the SENATE Judiciary Committee regarding S.2598 – the student loan bill that gives relief to “public” student loans. Gordon Wayne Watts: On my honour, I did, indeed, follow up with polite and brief phone calls to inquire about the status of my press inquiry and request to submit written testimony, while also expressing my support for both H.R.4907 and S.2598, and assuring them that my legal scholar testimony would be helpful to them in getting much-needed support from “Conservative” lawmakers. (Additionally, as shown in the email linked above, I did include ALL 44 or so committee members by Bcc in my original email: I “PDF printed” my private copy which showed the Bcc line.)

Gordon Wayne Watts: On “Thu, Apr 15, 2021 at 4:48 PM,” I sent an email to state & federal lawmakers (and news media) – and to FLORIDA GOVERNOR, Ron DeSantis (R-FL) – regarding student debt (and 2 other unrelated, but important, issues: a breakdown in intelligence sharing among agencies, and vulnerabilities in the power / telcom grid, you know, that provides critical 911 and such). LINK: https://GordonWatts.com/Email-to-Lawmakers-about-StudentDebt-etc_PDF.pdf ARCHIVE: https://Web.Archive.org/web/20210821043541/https://contractwithamerica2.com/Email-to-Lawmakers-about-StudentDebt-etc_PDF.pdf NOTE: Said email cc copied to FLORIDA GOVERNOR, Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and I occasionally call his office: 850.488.4441, a number I memorised from my college days at The Florida State University, when I lived within walking distance of the governor's mansion. On my honour, I do call his office on occasion to politely but FIRMLY demand he use his “bully pulpit” to speak out about problems like how we are buried in student debt due to ILLEGAL price-gouging. It **is** illegal, you know?

What is a Senatorial “class?”

Answer:

The 100 U.S. Senate seats are classified into three classes of United States senators, as established by Article I, Section 3, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution (which says that they “shall be assembled in Consequence of the first Election, they shall be divided as equally as may be into three Classes”), two of which (classes 1 and 2) consist of 33 seats and one (class 3) of 34 seats. The classes determine which Senate seats will be up for election in any two-year cycle, with only one class being up for election at a time. Elections for class 1 seats (such as for Sens. Rick Scott, R-FL and Dianne Feinstein, D-CA) took place in 2018, class 2 seats (such as for Sens. Jon Ossoff, D-GA and John Cornyn, R-TX) in 2020, and the elections for class 3 seats (such as for Sens. Marco Rubio, R-FL and Raphael Warnock, D-GA) will be held in 2022.

Directory of Representatives

Also referred to as a congressman or congresswoman, each representative is elected to a two-year term serving the people of a specific congressional district. The number of voting representatives in the House is fixed by law at no more than 435, proportionally representing the population of the 50 states. Currently, there are five delegates representing the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. A resident commissioner represents Puerto Rico. Learn more about representatives at The House Explained.

A Note About Room Numbering

The three primary House office buildings—Cannon, Longworth and Rayburn—share a room numbering system for above-ground rooms that might confuse visitors at first.  The system is fairly straight forward and can be used to identify most member and committee offices merely by knowing the correct room number regardless of building.

All Cannon above-ground rooms are three digits.  As you would expect, the first digit indicates the floor level.  For example, 303 Cannon is on the 3rd floor.

All above-ground Longworth rooms are four digits and start with the number 1.  The second digit from the left indicates the floor.  For example, 1309 is on the third floor of the Longworth building.

All above-ground Rayburn rooms are also four digits, but start with a 2. The second digit indicates the floor number. For example, 2125 is on the first floor of Rayburn.
